Money is one of the roots of freedom.

Money is the root of oppression, class conflict and inequality, which unfortunately generates a whole host of other issues. There can be no freedom without equality.

Have you ever asked "What is the root of money"?

This speech appears to conflate money with the value of one's labour. In a capitalist society, there must always be the oppressed and the oppressor, it is the exact opposite of what this speech argues. While we do work, and we receive money for that work, the proletariat are never given the full value of the work they have done, there is always someone above them- the boss- the bourgeoisie who seek to profit from the work of others.

Instead, consider a world without capital, I find this piece by Albert Einstein particularly interesting -

And I take it you didn't read far enough to see these two pearls of wisdom:

"The rotter who simpers that he sees no difference between the power of the dollar and the power of the whip, ought to learn the difference on his own hide – as, I think, he will."

"Until and unless you discover that money is the root of all good, you ask for your own destruction. When money ceases to be the tool by which men deal with one another, then men become the tools of men. Blood, whips and guns – or dollars. Take your choice – there is no other – and your time is running out."

But where is the base behind these assertions? There is nothing there, just vague statements with nothing backing them up! Why is the only other alternative to money bloodshed? And doesn't money cause bloodshed? Think bank robberies, or crime caused by the lack of money, as can be seen across the globe. There is an alternative to money, no matter how much you argue entirely on speculation, the opposite.

Answer me this- why is there no alternative to money? Why must we lie down and take what the person who has more money than you gives you? Is one human life worth more than another?

It is out of human compassion that I hold these beliefs, if humanity, who has overcome so many hardships, cannot break the chains of oppression, then there is no hope. However, I know that if the proletariat rises as one, we can overcome these horrors-

Hunger, poverty, crime - these plagues are not universal, they are capitalist - a product of profit.

Come back to me when you've actually read the article.

I have read the article, it seems to argue that money was the creator of modern society, rather than human labour, as if money in itself is a force.

It also implies that money is somehow an entirely objective measure of someones worth, which seems entirely ludicrous to me.

Explain what it is I am missing, I'm genuinely curious!
